NSA Ohio, A Chapter of the National Speakers Association

History

NSA Ohio was founded in 1980 and has become an Award Winning Chapter of the National Speakers Association. The NSA Ohio Chapter consists of NSA members that meet regularly on a local level for networking and the sharing of informative programs on issues vital to the speaking professional.

NSA Ohio was founded by Dr. Trudy Knox in 1980. Her vision was to bring together people who were speaking that wanted to improve their platform skills and gain a better understanding of the business side of speaking. Her grass roots efforts have grown from the first meeting which was dutch treat, to passing the hat to cover expenses, to our present day schedule of five educational seminars per year.

NSA Ohio was one of the very first of fifteen chapters chartered with the National Speakers Association in 1981.. The chapter is an award winning chapter with 80 plus members and a part time paid administrative assistant. Trudy's vision continues today as speakers, trainers and consultants gather to network, improve their platform skills, and learn the latest in business procedures.

CELEBRATING 29 YEARS OF SERVICE

Dreams and dedication have created this living entity we call NSA Ohio, a local chapter of the National Speakers Association. From the beginning, when we were founded in 1980 by Dr. Trudy Knox, we have based our success on three quality cornerstones:People, Principles and Practice.

People

Leaders and members have blessed us with their talents and education at the right time and in the right way!

Our early leaders and members had a dream which they funded with their love, money and time. As we moved into the 1990's more dreams came true. We added professional staff, created a directory and a newsletter. The Speakers School, Speakers Showcase, MARS mentoring program and Joint Venture became a reality. In the new century, realities came easier as we became an even more professional organization by developing a website and improving it; bringing in the best national speakers to educate us; developing a new "speaker school" called ProTrack for all people interested in developing the NSA competencies for speaking; and, fine tuning our financial stability and leadership development, our sense of community, and the marketing of our members to industry partners. Our growth over the past 25 years can only be attributed to the fine members who have brought us into organizational adulthood with flair!

Principles

Fine programs and a sincere dedication to each other have been the strongly held beliefs underlying all that we do. The surprise is that as we give to the organization, we increase our own skills and opportunities. We are serious about ethics and know that each person's individual reputation affects every other speaker's reputation.

Practice

The habits of participation, professionalism and personal development continue to service us well as we conduct memorable meetings, network, continuously develop and recognize new leaders. NSA Ohio members attend NSA functions in record numbers. They graduate from participation and leadership at the local level to the national level. We forge valuable bonds with other meeting professionals -- including association executives, meeting planners and hospitality representatives. Financial management is a serious matter. We are responsible and accountable because we want to live forever.

The future is always in the present thinking of NSA Ohio leaders. From weekend board retreats to careful fiscal management, we are committed to being a sound and flexible organization ever responsive to the changing needs of our industry and members.

We are known as an association where quality people associate for their personal advancement, for the advancement of their profession and for the betterment of meetings. Here at NSA Ohio, we grow professional speakers and professional leaders. We grow thriving businesses and friendships.
